David Saul, CEng FIMarEST CMarEng

David is a Chartered Engineer through the IMarEST with over 35 years’ experience working in the Oil and Gas Industry. He worked in subsea controls for Aker Solutions and GE before joining BP in 2005.

David is currently the Senior Advisor for Subsea at bp. In addition to providing specialist advice in his practice area covering bp’s hydrocarbon and renewables business he has overall responsibility for maintenance and development of BP’s subsea standards. David represents bp on the IOGP subsea committee and jointly chairs the IOGP subsea CCS expert group. Within API he is the bp voting member for task group 17 together with chairing the API17N and Q work streams.

Prior to his current role David was the subsea Technical Authority for BP’s Safety and Operational Risk (S&OR) group. Earlier bp roles have included leading BP’s autonomous underwater vehicle development programme and responsibility for subsea technology management on several projects.

In addition to his technical qualifications in electrical and electronic engineering David has an MBA in technology management from the Open University.

David currently presents on the SUT’s subsea awareness course’s together with bp internal courses. In addition to core work activities, he also supports early careers initiatives including the Royal Academy of Engineer’s GEEP mentoring program for university students.

Outside work David has been an active supporter of the Raspberry Pi computer ecosystem since it’s introduction in 2012, supporting many educational activities and user events.
