One of the main challenges of the Net Zero ambition for the oil and gas industry (scope 1 and scope 2) is the massive decarbonization of the fuel gas used to generate power, particularly for offshore remote sites. For these types of assets, TotalEnergies R&D has developed concepts of centralized floating Power Generation Units (PGU) that can be connected to existing FPSOs or platforms to supply decarbonized electricity. The results of an R&D technical and economic feasibility study will be presented. The current technology status and technical gaps, as well as the limits and the potential of the concepts will also be discussed.
